Favicon & Apple touch icon checker
Paste a public URL. We read the HTML for icon links, probe whether they load, and check /favicon.ico.
What we check
- link rel=icon, shortcut icon, apple-touch-icon, and mask-icon
- Whether each declared URL returns a successful HTTP status
- Whether /favicon.ico exists at the site root
- Whether you have an Apple touch icon for iOS home screens
Questions
What size should my favicon be?
Ship an SVG when you can, or a 32×32 (and ideally 48×48) PNG. For iOS, add a 180×180 apple-touch-icon PNG.
Do I still need /favicon.ico?
Browsers still request it as a fallback. Keep a small .ico or PNG at /favicon.ico, and also declare <link rel="icon"> in the HTML head.
Why does the checker say an icon failed?
The linked URL returned an error or timed out from our server. Bot protection can block us even when your browser loads the icon. The Shipcheck extension checks the live tab instead.
Does a missing favicon hurt SEO?
Not as a ranking factor, but it looks unfinished in tabs, bookmarks, and some SERP surfaces. Fix it before launch.
