Meta tag checker and social preview

Paste a URL to see exactly how it looks on Google, X, LinkedIn, and Slack. We check your title, description, Open Graph and Twitter tags, canonical, and headings, then give you fixed tags to paste.

Why previews matter more than rankings on launch day

The first people who see your site usually see a link, not a search result: a tweet, a LinkedIn post, a Slack message, a Product Hunt comment. A missing og:image or a cut-off title makes that link look broken and cuts clicks.

What we check

  • Title and meta description length
  • og:title, og:description, og:image (and that the image actually loads)
  • twitter:card for large image previews on X
  • Canonical URL, noindex, H1 count, lang, viewport, favicon
  • Structured data (JSON-LD) types on the page

Questions

How long should a title tag and meta description be?

Aim for 30–60 characters for the title and 70–160 characters for the description. Google truncates by pixel width, so put the most important words first.

What size should my og:image be?

1200×630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio) works on X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Slack, and iMessage. Keep it under 5 MB, use an absolute https URL, and keep important text away from the edges.

I updated my tags but LinkedIn still shows the old preview. Why?

Social networks cache previews. X can cache previews for up to a week, and Slack also caches unfurls. Use LinkedIn's Post Inspector, or change the URL (for example ?v=2) to force a fresh fetch.

Does this checker run JavaScript?

No. It reads the HTML your server returns, which is exactly what social crawlers and most AI crawlers see. If your tags are only added by JavaScript, they will show as missing here, and that is a real problem to fix.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no limits beyond a fair-use rate limit. The free Shipcheck Chrome extension also checks titles, descriptions, and share previews on any page you open, including localhost and staging.
